Can a broken compass still point north?
[For someone who has abandoned his lifelong dream, Jade's next few days were certainly the busiest of his life.
Between destroying the institute's fomicry lab and Saphir's desertation, unrest has been high among the higher ups, even with his proposal to ban fomicry being backed by the crown prince. The emperor isn't too pleased with this turn of events either, even dropping by personally to offer a few deterring words, and even the threat of censure.
But Jade wouldn't hear of it, now that he's come to his senses. Long overdue as it was, when Jade sets his mind to something, it is next to impossible to change his mind about it, especially when he pursues his goal with the relentlessness of a hunting dog after its intended prey.
It's after one such day of setting aside reports and listening to his superiors's dissuasions that he finds himself in front of a door he's always avoided, summoned by the one who has brought about this necessary change in him in the first place.
Without further ado, he knocks, thinking it's best not to keep the other waiting.]
Major Jade Curtiss, reporting for duty.
